Sunshine and toadstools

The sun has shone and shone and shone some more. It has been super summery. I've spent my time mostly in the office but I've got out by the river whenever possible, sipping the odd cold beer of a warm evening...
When I haven't been enjoying the weather I have been drawing more toadstools, I'll show you them later, but for now here is an earlier one in colour.

I've had a fantastic weekend visiting my family back home. Its strange I don't get homesick but it is always hard to drive away from them again. I'm not going to dwell on it instead I'm going to share some happy little toadstools with you.

The finished bookmark

I've been reading quite a bit recently so I appreciate a good bookmark. I thought it would be fun to make one as a free gift to send with orders from the shop.
Please note the rounded corners on the final pieces, it makes all the difference don't you think?

If any one would like one sending them just email me here and I would be happy to send you one.

And now for something a little different

This is an idea that kept popping up in my head. I like swirly things, and clouds, and skies, and hearts - so why not mix them all up and make a card out of them. So you can find this little treasure in the shop.
As with my Masters work, I like a bit of shadow detail, paper cut and 3dimensionality so I added a little foam sticky pad just to lift the heart from the backing:

Hedgehog - an ongoing obsession

I have been drawing and making hedgehogs just for fun. One of my favourites is this little fellow made from crochet. I know he's not typical hedgehog colours, but I think he looks good. Here he is in sketch form too:

Mottos to live by

I have read two random lines of text recently that have struck a cord with something within me. The first was ‘Keep hands moving’. It was actually written on a hand dryer in the ladies loo but I think it is good advice, idle hands... devil's work... and all that… I just love to be busy but recently have taken to drifting off into daydream world and loosing big chunks of time. If I kept my hands busy it grounds me a bit more and I am more likely to get things done.

The second was on a student travel website, it read ‘Make the most of your time on Earth’. At first I thought this was a bit ominous like we’re all going to be abducted by aliens or sent to Pluto or something, but then I realised it is the same as something I used to say a lot - life is too short! Which is true and no one is going to live your life for you. I think I'm starting to focus a bit more on what I actually want. I used to be super ambitious and then lost that somewhere along the way, however I can just about feel the tingle of it creeping back into my life. I don't want to wait for things to happen, I want to make them happen.

Madame Dahlia

I have been experimenting with the things I've been storing up in my sketch books. Doodles of swirls and plants and leaves combined with the occaisional pretty lady.
I'm quite pleased with the results:
